FEI Development Task Force Moves Forward
The FEI Development Task Force held its second meeting on 19, 20 and 21 August on the sidelines of the first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. The Task Force, formed in May by FEI President HRH Princess Haya, has the job of taking FEI development efforts to the next level by evaluating the mandate for and composition of a future Development Committee; evaluating the operation of such a group and supporting structures within the FEI; examining possible financial models for the sustainability of the Development Programme in the service of National Federations and equestrian sport; and identifying immediate operational priorities for development, including the creation of a five-year plan.

Team Jumping Kicks Off at Youth Olympic Games
(Singapore) - The Equestrian competition at the first ever Youth Olympic Games started today with the first round of the Team Competition at the Singapore Turf Club Riding Centre. The Nations Cup format is familiar (two round competition over the same course), but the similarities stop there because at this event there are six regional teams (Africa, Asia, Australasia, Europe, North America, and South America), each with five athletes; the best three scores from each of the two rounds to count. No country is allowed to have more than one athlete.

USEF Names Replacement Horse to Para-Equestrian Short List/Nominated Entry for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games

(Verden, Germany) - Last year’s silver medallist moved up the ranks to take gold at the FEI World Breeding Dressage Championships in Verden yesterday (Sunday). Uno Donna Unique (s.Don Schufro), ridden by Denmark's Andreas Helgstrand, was the undisputed World Champion of the 6 year old division at the German fixture in which Danish horses excelled. The new 5 year old World Champion however comes from Holland. Astrix (s.Obelisk) helped Emmelie Scholtens to win her second consecutive title.

(Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) — Jump Canada has selected Karen Sparks of Kanata, ON, as the CAVALOR 'Athlete of the Month' for June. At the Spruce Meadows “Skyliner” Tournament, held June 23–27 in Calgary, AB, Sparks claimed two major victories. The 29-year-old athlete won the $5,000 1.30m Ashcor Final Four riding Victoria, an eight-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare, as well as the $10, 000 1.40m Riddell Family Final Four with Ferraro K, an eight-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding. Both horses are owned by Brookstreet Stables Corporation.

These combinations, in addition to those previously selected for the Short List, will be submitted on the Nominated Entry which is due August 16, 2010. The USEF will add two additional horse/rider combinations before August 16th to fill the maximum number of spaces available on the Nominated Entry (18 horse/rider combinations).

Michael Morrissey (USA) has been suspended for three months and issued a yellow card with retroactive disqualification for excessive use of the whip in class 101 at the Wellington CSI 2* held on 27 February 2010. Mr Morrissey has also been subjected to a fine of CHF 2,000. The suspension from FEI competition will run from 5 May to 4 August, concurrent with the three-month suspension imposed on Mr Morrissey by the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF).

(Falsterbo, Sweden) - On an afternoon of dramatically fluctuating fortunes, the host nation of Sweden sprung a big surprise as they swept to victory in the fifth leg of the 2010 Meydan FEI Nations Cup™ on their home ground at Falsterbo today. It was against all the odds, because they had previously picked up only two points in the series and seemed to be staring relegation in the face at the end of the season. But in typically stubborn style they didn't let the pressure overwhelm them, and three first-round clears ensured they would always be in contention while it was their Olympic silver medallist, Rolf-Goran Bengtsson, who clinched it for them in the end.

FEI Issues Mandatory Guidelines To Hypersensitivity Protocol - Effective Immediately
The FEI has undertaken a review of the Protocol for Thermography and Clinical Examination (Hypersensitivity of Legs) and, in an effort to further strengthen the Protocol, has issued the following mandatory guidelines to be applied by the Veterinary Commissions appointed for FEI Events.

Anky & Painted Black Win First Falsterbo World Dressage Masters Grand Prix

(Falsterbo, Sweden) - Anky van Grunsven, the most successful rider in the Exquis World Dressage Masters, on Thursday rode a newly recovered IPS Painted Black to victory in the Grand Prix of the first €100,000 CDI5* competitions staged by the Falsterbo Horse Show.
Tinne Vilhelmson Silfven, one of Sweden's most popular dressage stars, gave the big crowd that turned out to support the event good cause to applaud even more enthusiastically than they did for all the riders when she and the 11-year-old Favourit turned in a performance that placed them second.
